A new bar is set open this summer at a prime location in the heart of a borough town centre.

The team behind the popular Hideaway Coffee Bar on Bury New Road in Prestwich are closing the existing business after four years of trading to create The Hideout Bar on nearby Sherbourne Street.

The new bar will operate from premises above the current Bargain Booze and Dokes Pizzeria, a space which in the 1990s was a night spot called Hob Nobs.

The coffee bar is run by siblings Steven, Joanne and Michelle Monks, who said they were looking for a new challenge after "four brilliant years of trading" at the current premises.

The coffee bar will close on June 15 with Hideout set to open later in the summer, with the current best estimate of sometime in July.

Steven said: “We really can’t thank our loyal customers enough for all the support you have given us since we opened, and we hope that you will all follow us on our brand new venture.

“Our team of builders has started work today on transforming this great space into The Hideout Bar and eatery that will offer food and some great entertainment.”

Steven added: “The Hideout Bar will serve brunch and small bites.

"It’s going to be open six days a week with seating capacity for around 70 and I suppose our target age group will be 20s up to 50s.”

Steven added that he believed that Prestwich was an "up and coming and desirable" place to launch such a business.

He said: “We’re encouraged by the regeneration plans for the centre of Prestwich which will be starting soon and yes I think things are positive for hospitality businesses in the area.”

A recent council licensing hearing granted a premises licence for the new bar.

The bar will be able to serve alcohol until 11pm from Sundays to Thursdays and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
