A Trafford charity is calling on residents to give up two hours of their time a week to a family from the region.

Home-Start Trafford, Salford and Wigan is one of four Home-Starts in operation across Greater Manchester.

The charity takes its volunteers and trains these volunteers to support parents of school-age children who are referred to its services for reasons ranging from poor health to poverty.

Its campaign, called "Gift Your Time At Teatime", is calling on residents to give up two hours of their time a week to a family from the region after an increase in referrals to its services.

Kathryn Eckersley, the managing director of Home-Start Trafford, Salford and Wigan, said: "We have seen an increase in the number of families asking for Home-Start's support, many of whom need some help at one of their busiest times of the day – teatime.

"It can be helping a child with their homework, helping a child with their bedtime routine, or playing with a child whilst mum or dad make tea."
