Cyclists mammoth ride
A TRIO of cyclists have raised almost £3,000 after pedalling 874 miles from John O’Groats to Land’s End.
The group battled heat, rain, exhaustion and tough terrain after setting off from north Scotland on July 28 and arriving in Cornwall to applause from a gathered crowd on August 8.
Mr Wright, aged 33, said: “It has been a great experience and well worth all of the effort in planning and training.
“We have seen all different kinds of scenery as well as many different types of weather on the trip.
“We arrived at Lands End to be welcomed by a group of friends and relatives and it was a nice end to a challenge we will remember forever.”
The Bobby Moore fund was Mr Wright’s chosen charity, while Mr Wakefield and Mr Wood, both aged 32, were riding for the Alzheimer’s Society and St Catherine’s Hospice in Preston. In total they have now raised just over £2700.
This challenge was by far the toughest attempted yet by the three men, whose previous long-distance rides include trips from Bridlington to Blackpool and the Great Manchester Cycle.
Charity donation pages for the three men are still open.
