Fly-tippers dump huge fridge freezer
A PENSIONER was horrified when she discovered fly-tippers had dumped a huge fridge-freezer in the road behind her house.
Kathleen Black, aged 64, found the large appliance left in an unadopted road behind her home in Rishton Lane in Great Lever.
But Mrs Black said she contacted the council because she could not move the fridge herself.
She added: “When I noticed the fridge freezer in the road behind the house, I thought it looked like a hazard and obviously wanted it to be removed.
“I know it is an unadopted road but I thought the council may help out as a good will gesture.”
At first, she was told the council could not remove the object because it was not on council owned land.
But after Bolton Council realised the fridge freezer was a potential risk — with a removed door and some exposed tubing — it decided to arrange removal.
A council spokesman said: “The responsibility of maintaining unadopted land lies with the residents who own the land.
“However, if something is deemed to be a potential risk then we would investigate and follow-up with an education visit with the owner. In this case, we feel the item could pose a risk and as a result have arranged for its removal.”
Mrs Black said she was “delighted” to hear the council would be removing the fridge freezer.
She added: “I’m very happy that it will be gone — it will make living here better and easier.
“I just wish people would stop dumping things in the area, it’s not pleasant at all.”
