A HEARING for a doctor jailed for 18 years for raping, and sexually assaulting, a girl has been adjourned.
Stephen Hamilton, who formerly worked at Heaton Medical Centre, was due to face a three-day fitness to practise hearing, before the Medical Practitioners’ Tribunal Service, in Manchester.
The hearing was scheduled to take place between September 18 and 20, but it has now been adjourned.
A new hearing date has not yet been scheduled.
Hamilton was convicted by a jury of a catalogue of crime, including child cruelty, rape and sexual assault.
His victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was abused when she was between the ages of 10 and 12.
Hamilton’s employment at Heaton Medical Centre was terminated before he stood trial for the offences. The general practitioner, aged 47, formerly of Gaskell Road, Altrincham, was jailed in May.
