Riannon has close shave for Bolton Hospice
THE end of the British summer is especially bad news for one warm-hearted teenager.
With temperatures starting to dip as we enter September, Riannon Ceesay, aged 18, from Deane, took the decision to shave off her hair for charity.
Miss Ceesay now sports a shaven head in place of her curly brown locks and has already smashed her fundraising target for Bolton Hospice, which provides care for cancer patients and others with life-limiting illnesses.
Her grandfather, Phil, neighbour Joan and friends Talia, aged 13, and Tom, aged 18, all died recently from cancer, leaving Miss Ceesay determined to do something special out of “respect” to them.
“I saw the news about Talia on Facebook and my friend Tom battled cancer for most of his life before passing away,” Miss Ceesay said.
“My mum wasn’t best pleased when I told her but I’ll just have to wear a hat for a while.”
Miss Ceesay had her head shaved at Talking Heads in Deane Church Lane.
She has grown to like her new look, despite initially fearing the worst.
“It’s a bit cold and at first I was surprised but I’m starting to get used to it,” she said. “I’m not too bothered how quickly it grows back really, it looks okay like this.
“With it being the first thing I’ve done for charity, I thought £50 would be a good target, purely from people I know, and I’m passed that. Fingers crossed I can raise a bit more.”
