Helen Flanagan supports Coronation Street co-star Michael Le Vell after not guilty verdict
HELEN Flanagan has appeared on national television in support of her former co-star Michael Le Vell who was this week cleared of child sex charges.
Speaking on Daybreak this morning, the former Coronation Street star said anyone who knew him “had no doubt in their mind” he would be found not guilty.
The actress, who played Mr Le Vell’s on-screen daughter Rosie Webster for 12 years, told presenter Kate Garraway and Aled Jones that he is the “loveliest man” and it was “absolutely heartbreaking” what he had been through.
Helen, aged 23, said: “I think it was just a massive relief for everyone and I think everyone that knows him had no doubt in their mind that he would be cleared of all charges.
“It’s just a shame that he had to go through it in the first place. I don’t think anyone could imagine what he’s been through.”
When asked about her feelings when she found out about the charges, Helen, dressed in a camouflaged top with her hair in a trademark bun, said: “It was awful and absolutely heartbreaking for everyone.
“He’s the loveliest man and I think he’s been incredibly strong throughout it.
“But I’m so glad that he can rebuild everything with his career.”
Mr Le Vell, real name Michael Turner, was suspended from the soap pending the investigation and is now reportedly due to make a dramatic comeback later this year on a £250,000 year-long contract.
Former St John the Evangelist RC School pupil Helen said: “I’m sure Coronation Street, especially after what he’s been through, will welcome him with open arms.”
When Aled Jones asked if there was any truth he would follow her and go on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, she said: “I would love that if Michael went on I’m a Celebrity. Oh he’d be hilarious — he’d be really grumpy in the morning.
“That would be good for him because people would see what a lovely guy he is.”
