Westhoughton hairdresser celebrates 25th anniversary
A HAIRDRESSERS has celebrated its 25th anniversary by raising nearly £2,000 for Bolton Hospice.
Portfolio Hairdressers in Market Street, Westhoughton, raised £1,966 at a dinner at Brookfield Hall, Peel Street.
The salon’s owner and general manager, Estelle Aldred, aged 44, says the event was a big success.
She added: “We were really overwhelmed with the huge support we received.
“It was a great event and it was pleasing to see everybody enjoying themselves. At first we were concerned we wouldn’t be able to raise the amount of money we wanted but we got there in the end because people have been so generous.”
Ms Aldred, who has worked at the salon for 23 years, paid tribute to her colleagues and customers for making the event possible.
She said: “There’s a real tightly knit spirit in the salon — I’ve kept the same clients for years, and they feel more like friends than customers.
“The stylists I work with are so friendly and we all enjoy working together.”
There was a raffle on the night with a variety of prizes on offer.
The salon’s customers who donated money were given vouchers to spend in the salon.
Edwina Gibney, general manager of Brookfield Hall, said: “It was a fantastic event and everyone who attended had a great time.
“It was a pleasure to have Portfolio with us. They’ve got a massive following locally and we’re pleased they raised so much money.”
Helen Cannell, community fundraising assistant at Bolton Hospice, said: “‘We are very grateful to Estelle for all of the time and effort she has put into organising this event and for raising such a fantastic amount for Bolton Hospice.
“Our running costs are just over £3 million per year and as a charity we have to raise the first £2.5 million of this ourselves, so on behalf of Bolton Hospice I would like to offer my sincerest thanks to all involved for their generosity and their support.”
