Brave 21-year-old special constable honoured after he helps catch violent shoplifter
THE thin blue line has been strengthened thanks to special constable Conor Tomlinson who has been recognised for his heroic acts in the line of duty.
The 21-year-old from Horwich is well on his achieving his ambitions to becoming a full-time bobby after receiving a commendation.
Conor, a former Rivington and High School pupil, is a volunteer Special Constable with the Lancashire Constabulary and was praised for his efforts in diffusing a hostile situation during one of his first shifts.
Police chiefs say he played a vital role in catching a shoplifter, who became violent and aggressive to other officers.
Conor was on hand to offer support — and eventually assisted with the arrest.
The incident happened over the summer in Leyland.
Conor has recently graduated from Bolton College with an HND qualification in Policing Studies, after completing his level two and three diplomas in public services.
He said: “It’s been a complete honour to receive this award. However, I was simply doing my job. The team at Lancashire Constabulary are fantastic — I’m really enjoying my time as a special constable and I’m learning so much.
“My four years at Bolton College have set me on my pathway to my dream career to becoming a police officer. The course, tutors and facilities available are all second to none.
“I’d encourage anyone interested in public services to enrol at Bolton College today.”
Special Inspector Peter Allen from Leyland Police Station added: “This is a fantastic achievement for Conor and we are extremely proud of him. It is particularly pleasing to see Conor’s skills improving and his self-confidence growing. This is an excellent start for him in his role as a special constable.”
Tim Woodward, police studies lecturer at Bolton College, added: “We’re extremely proud of Conor and his continued successes within his volunteer role with the Lancashire Constabulary.
“He was an outstanding student during his time at Bolton College, always delivering above and beyond.
“We all have extremely high hopes for his future in the police force.”
