A SPECIAL celebratory event has been held to unveil the new-look St Bernard’s RC School.
Headteacher Clare Doodson said: “The impact on the children’s learning is significant in the respect of separate classrooms instead of them having to walk through classrooms to reach other parts of the building.
“Each classroom is now a regular shape and is a stimulating, welcoming and engaging learning environment.
“The children can also move around the school easily without disturbing anyone and there is a flow to the building that is safe and pleasant for all.
“Our school building now makes sense and is an excellent environment to learn, work and play in.”
More than 100 people attended the celebration evening, some of the visitors were those who attended the school themselves as children or had children at the school, and, said Mrs Doodson, “they could not believe the transformation”.
She added: “The governors were very keen to invite families, both past and present, and all those who have helped us on our way and it was a celebration and a thank-you.
“It was a really enjoyable event that all the staff, governors and visitors enjoyed and allowed us to share our super new environment.
“My thanks go to the governors and a fantastic staff who show that through great team work, great things happen.”
The school will be able to increase the number of reception admissions from 20 to 30 and grow from a 140 pupil school to 210 pupils.
