Half term creative workshops for youngsters at Octagon Theatre
YOUNGSTERS are being given the chance to get creative at workshops at a Bolton theatre this half-term.
The Octagon hopes to give children and teenagers a chance to experience theatre in a new way, develop skills, make friends and have fun, from Monday, October 28, to Thursday, October 31.
Theatre professionals will share their hints and tips, as well as using workshops, games and activities to focus on topics, including devising theatre, comedy, improvisation and storytelling.
It will be the first time the theatre has held workshops for youngsters concentrating on specific skills.
Jenny Riding, participation manager at the Octagon, said: “We are offering an exciting opportunity for young people to work with professional theatre directors to learn new skills, meet new people and to develop themselves creatively and personally.
“Providing one-day workshops for young people over the half term holiday, that focus on specific skills, is a first for the Octagon.
“Our new master classes are open to anyone aged five to 17 who has an interest in drama and theatre.
“The Octagon Theatre offers a safe and nurturing environment that inspires young people to use the arts to explore their lives and the world around them and empowers them to find their own voice.”
On Monday, October 28, a workshop for ages five to seven will look at devising theatre and storytelling.
Tuesday’s workshop, for eight to 11-year-olds, will focus on comedy and improvisation.
Ensemble, physical theatre and gesture will be featured in Wednesday’s workshop, also for eight to 11-year-olds.
And the final day, Thursday, October 31, will be comedy and improvisation for 11 to 17-year-olds.
The workshops cost £20 per day and will run from 10am to 4pm. Phone 01204 520661.
