Mr Toast to help Bolton keep warm
PEOPLE can find out how they can slash their energy bills when Mr Toast comes to Bolton. The cartoon character will be in Morrisons, in Mornington Road, between 10am and 4pm on Friday.
He will be accompanied by a team of experts who will tell people about the potential savings they can make as part of the Get Me Toasty scheme.
Under the scheme, Greater Manchester councils are working with three approved installers — Dyson Energy Services, Carillion and Forrest — to make homes more efficient by replacing boilers and providing new loft and cavity wall installation.
Home owners and private tenants living in certain post code areas or those claiming certain benefits may be able to qualify for the work at no cost. Wherever possible, the team will make appointments for experts to visit residents’ homes and carry out an assessment.
Bolton Council’s cabinet member for housing, waste and recycling, Cllr Elaine Sherrington, said: “With the colder weather about to start and rising energy bills, the cost of keeping warm is a serious concern for residents.
“We want as many eligible residents as possible to take advantage of this scheme, which can help people make their homes warmer and more efficient as the winter begins and temperatures begin to drop.
“I’d urge people to get in touch with the advice line or visit the website and find out whether they’re eligible for this free service.”
Aileen Hayes, aged 77, from Bolton has recently had a new boiler installation from Forrest under the scheme.
She said: “My house is lovely and warm now. I’d recommend any house owner to go for the scheme.”
The scheme is launched as Scottish Power and Southern Electricity announced price hikes of 8.2 per cent.
British Gas has also announced its electricity prices were to surge by 10.4 per cent and its gas prices by 8.4 per cent from November 23.
Bolton North East MP, David Crausby, has launched a petition calling for Prime Minister, David Cameron to freeze energy prices until 2017.
