Youngsters enjoy summer reading challenge at Breightmet Library
YOUNG bookworms were awarded for their efforts at a library presentation event.
The ceremony was held for Bolton youngsters who excelled in the national The Summer Reading Challenge scheme.
The challenge involved children reading six books of their choice over the summer holidays.
Poet Craig Bradley announced the prizes at Bolton Central Library and entertained guests with poems. The Mayor of Bolton Cllr Colin Shaw presented the winners with their prizes.
Mother, Helen Jackson, and her daughter, Madison Jackson, received a unique prize from Breightmet Library as they both took part in the challenge.
They are thought to be the only parent and child who completed the scheme together. Blackshaw Primary School won the Bolton Schools Competition as it had the highest percentage of finishers of the reading scheme.
It was the second consecutive year the school has triumphed in the challenge.
Two children also received prizes for entering a design a monster competition.
Organisers of The Summer Reading Challenge said research shows it increases children’s reading range and builds confidence and it is the UKs biggest reading promotion for primary school children.
The Summer Reading Challenge is organised by the Reading Agency.
