Trendy cocktail bar to open in Westhoughton
A COCKTAIL and sports bar is vowing to provide something fresh to the community when it opens in Westhoughton this weekend.
Lounge Seven in Market Street will throw open its doors on Friday night, and has promised to buck the trend of recent pub closures in the area.
With large TVs, plenty of seating and an extensive food menu, the bar hopes to attract families and sociable drinkers during the day, before targeting younger people in the evenings to enjoy its wide range of cocktails.
The Market Street site was originally a bank before recently housing Red restaurant.
Work has been ongoing at the bar since mid-summer and owner Demetrios Kyriacou is confident it will be successful, despite it being his first experience of running a bar.
“We were actually looking to open somewhere in Manchester, where I live, but someone who uses the same accountant as me said this place was free,” said Mr Kyriacou.
“We had a look and thought the area was nice, and that we might fill a bit of a void.
“We have communicated with some of the market traders and other businesses in Westhoughton and been well supported.”
Four pubs in Westhoughton have closed in the last 18 months, but Mr Kyriacou said Lounge Seven will not go the same way.
“This bar will be for families and hopefully, showing the football on several screens, will attract people in,” he said.
“We’ve got a good footfall here being right on the high street and we should do well during the World Cup next summer if the weather’s nice and England do well.
“Our chef is excellent and very experienced, and we will serve food slightly better than most pub grub but not at prohibitive prices.
“It should be a happy middle ground.”
The bar will be managed by Daniel Testro, appointed in September, who has since been working to make sure the venue is ready for its opening night.
Lounge Seven opens for the first time tonight at 8pm, with the kitchen making its debut the following lunchtime.
