A WOMAN left her pet kitten alone in the house for six days — with one meal.

Horrified neighbours heard Oscar’s cries and had to put ice through the letterbox to keep him alive due to the negligence of Megan Rose Lay, aged 18, of Queen Street, Radcliffe.

The RSPCA became aware of the case and prosecuted Lay for neglecting Oscar, who has now been rehomed.

Lay appeared before Bury magistrates and admitted two charges of failing to look after the animal’s welfare between June 3 and June 9 this year.

Magistrates banned Lay from keeping pets for three years and gave her a 12-month conditional discharge.

Afterwards, RSPCA inspector Vicki McDonald said: “I accept Ms Lay was called away at short notice, for longer than expected, is remorseful and signed the kitten over to the RSPCA, but it is unacceptable not to make provisions for any animal in your care.”
