A TEENAGER has admitted causing a major power cut in Moss Bank Park by damaging an electricity sub station.
Kieran Swanton, aged 19, admitted causing £10,000 to the equipment at the beauty spot off Moss Bank Park on July 20.
Steve Woodman, prosecuting, told Bolton Magistrates Court that Swanton used a sledgehammer to cause the damage.
The crime took place when BBC’s CBeebies was filming at the park.
The crew managed to act quickly and were not disadvantaged by the loss of power and were able to keep filming. Bolton Council was seeking £74,000 for the damages, the court heard.
Swanton, of Gargrave Avenue, in Johnson Fold, has a previous conviction for arson. District Judge Jonathan Finestein said: “What you did was very serious. You could have caused all sorts of problems and had a very serious effect on the surroundings.”
The case was adjourned until December 13.
