HEALTH chiefs are reminding Bolton patients to check their medication levels ahead of Christmas.

The NHS Bolton Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is urging everyone to make sure they are prepared to treat viruses and minor injuries at home.

The CCG is advising everyone to check they have the following items in their medicines cabinet at home:

  • Regular painkillers, such as paracetamol, ibuprofen or aspirin
  • Cold and flu remedies
  • Anti-diarrhoea medicine
  • Oral rehydration salts
  • Indigestion remedies
  • Plasters
  • A thermometer
  • Tissues

The reminder is part of the CCG’s ongoing campaign to reduce unnecessary hospital admissions this winter.

Dr Barry Silvert, clinical director for integrated commissioning at the CCG, said: “None of us want to be ill over Christmas, but it does pay to be well prepared just in case.

"The most effective treatment for many minor illnesses and injuries is to take care of yourself at home.

"A well stocked medicine cabinet means less time out and about trying to purchase these items and more time with family and friends, or if you’re feeling really poorly, at home keeping warm.”
