A MAN accused of stabbing another man to death has appeared at Liverpool Crown Court.

David Dempsey, aged 42, of Kermishaw Nook, Tyldesley, is alleged to have murdered Steven Butterworth.

Mr Butterworth was attacked at his home in Diamond Street in Leigh on August 25. He was stabbed in the chest and died on September 27.

Dempsey was initially charged with attempted murder but the charge changed when Mr Butterworth died.

The defendant also stands charged with robbery and possessing an offensive weapon.

Dempsey had been due to enter pleas yesterday but the case was adjourned until February 13 next year.

A trial date has been fixed for April 22.
