SUPER Santa lookalike David Caswell has been causing quite a stir touring the Bolton area on his trusty steed — an eye-catching Honda Goldwing trike.

The semi-retired engineering company boss, who celebrates his 83rd birthday on New Year’s Day, decked out his powerful transport with a lit up tree and speakers pumping out Bing Crosby festive hits, to bring Christmas cheer to the area.

Mr Caswell, from Harwood, decided to dress up as Santa after spotting a costume on e-Bay.

He thought it would be ideal to help him entertain residents at the Four Seasons care home in Breightmet where his wife, Barbara, lives.

But every Santa needs transport and, with reindeer resting in preparation for Christmas, Mr Caswell turned to his trike to arrive in style, even getting grandson, 11-year-old Travis, dressed as an elf helper.

The pensioner, who ran Bolton-based metalwork firm Casargon, acquired the Goldwing six months ago after swapping his Jaguar car for it.

“The Goldwing was already jazzed up but I put a Christmas tree on the back, got a scrap radio from a car and fixed on speakers. You can hear it from end of the street to the other now,” he said.

After his first appearance at the care home, word got round and Mr Caswell donned his Santa suit several more times to attend local children’s parties on his alternative sleigh, including one at Bradshaw Cricket Club and another at the youth centre in Longsight Lane.

“All the children were outside waiting and cheering. It was delightful,” said Mr Caswell.

On Christmas Eve he parked his vehicle in Bolton, and added: “As I drove down Bury Road everyone was pipping their horns and people were stopping me asking to take my picture.”

As a result, he plans to hit the streets again next year.
