SHOW-STOPPING performances from talented young singers and dancers helped Bolton’s mayor raise “more money than ever” with his annual variety show.

Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Colin Shaw, was guest of honour as some of the town’s most talented youngsters took to the stage at the Albert Halls on Saturday night.

Children from Bolton-based Melody Pop Tuition and Lois Booth School of Dancing entertained council dignitaries and the public.

Angels Dance Fitness and Performance, in Highfield, Farnworth, also gave fabulous performances at the show.

The annual event raises money for the mayor’s charities — this year Fortalice, Bolton Hospice, Bolton Lads and Girls Club and the Sensory Centre for the Blind.

And with an estimated figure of more than £3,750 raised and money still coming in, Cllr Shaw believes this could be the “best ever” fundraising total the event has seen.

He said: “It was an absolutely fantastic night — the children were outstanding and so talented, showcasing their dancing and singing.

“There were so many different acts — 17 in the first half and 14 in the second half — so it really was a variety show.

“We broke all our records from a charity point of view, which of course is a great success. We believe more than £3,750 has been raised, which is the best figure we’ve ever had.”
