FINAL preparations are being made to the stalls in Bolton Market’s new food court ahead of tomorrow’s reopening after the £4.5 million revamp by Bolton Council.

Innovative new food outlets and established returning regulars are set to open for business in the central section of the market’s new “lifestyle hall”.

Among them are Cameroonian curry stall Nkono, hot food takeaway Milano Pizza and sugar craft specialist Cake and Decorate They will be joined by a patisserie, an Italian food supplier, sandwich shop Bake ‘n’ Butty and sweets stall Kandy Krush among others.

Celebrity chef Simon Rimmer, who will perform some demonstrations, will join council bosses at the two-day relaunch, which continues on Saturday and has been dubbed the “fall in love with Bolton weekend”.

All of the 40 businesses afforded a space in the new hall are set to open tomorrow, with a third of the stalls new to Bolton Market.

Nkono owner Alain Job vows to tackle obesity and give Bolton people fresh and sustainable African food, sourced entirely from produce available at Bolton Market.

His range of curries from his native Cameroon will be served in traditional banana leaves, a disposable, environmentally-friendly alternative to conventional packaging.

He said: “This will be a unique outlet for Bolton. Nowhere else sells this type of food.

“We are really excited to be here, with a vibrant community wanting to come to the market. We buy the stuff from the market, cook it here and sell it here.” Milano Pizza owner Mehran Mohmedikartalaei is offering a 50 per cent discount on the pizza, pasta, burgers and kebabs available tomorrow.

He said: “We are so excited and can’t wait to get started now.

“What has been really encouraging is the amount of young people, as well as old, who have been in the market over the last couple of weeks. That can only bode well for business.”

Cake and Decorate, run by mother and daughter Christine Molyneux and Gemma Hadley, traded from the indoor hall before the revamp.

Mrs Molyneux said: “We’ve been here about eight years now and are the only sugar craft supplier in Bolton.

“The last 12 months in the cabins have been very tough — if we took £30 in a day we thought we had done well as people just didn’t know where we were. We’ve got a great spot here, though, and I’m sure we’ll take as much in the next month as we did last year.”

The new hall has been partially open since January 21, after the council completed the new indoor layout.
