BARBERSHOP quartet-style singers raised notes of a monetary kind as well as a musical kind.
Phoenix Knights of Harmony performed for shoppers at Asda in Astley Bridge on Saturday to help raise £620 on behalf of the British Heart Foundation to buy a defibrillator for the store.
Volunteer fundraisers included Christine Baldwin, community life champion at Asda, as well as Carol Fielding, a cardiac rehabilitation sister from Royal Bolton Hospital, and Margaret Hey, from Bolton Cardiac Support Group.
Ms Baldwin said: “It was a fantastic day and we’re really pleased with how much money we have raised, which will go towards buying a defibrillator for the store for community use.
“High-profile cases such as Fabrice Muamba have highlighted the importance of major community places, such as supermarkets and schools, having one of these available for that moment of emergency.
"We were fundraising nationally in 560 different Asda stores on behalf of the British Heart Foundation, which is a fantastic cause.”
