HUNDREDS of shoppers are expected to queue outside a new Aldi store in Walkden when it opens for the first time tomorrow.

The German supermarket giant is opening an outlet in Ellesmere Retail Park in Walkden, with shoppers admitted for the first time from 8am on February 27.

The first 100 customers to queue outside the supermarket will be presented with a golden envelope, containing details of a prize, which include a £200 Aldi hamper, an HD camcorder and portable DVD players.

The Walkden store will create 25 jobs, provide 1,350 product lines and be served by 200 car parking spaces.

Store manager Andy Lowe said: “We are delighted to announce the opening of our new store in Walkden.

"We hope the local community enjoy the grand opening celebrations and our high quality products at everyday low prices.”

Aldi attracted more than 200 queuing shoppers when it opened its store in Prestwich earlier this month, with one eager punter waiting outside from 9pm the night before.

The new store will open from 8am to 9pm on Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
