A WORSLEY-based building company has been charged an elderly woman was crushed to death by a door at a care home.

Irene Sharples, aged 92, was living at Alexian Brothers Care Centre in St Mary’s Road, Moston, when a door fell on her during renovation work on November 7, 2010.

She died nearly four weeks later.

Rothwell Robinson Ltd, of Holyoake Road, Worsley, has been charged by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) for allegedly breaching health at safety at work requirements.

The company, which was carrying out building work at the home, is charged with failing to ensure the safety of Mrs Sharples, who suffered from dementia.

The Healthcare Management Trust, of Queen Anne’s Gate in London, who run the care home has also been charged with the same offence.

The Healthcare Management Trust and Rothwell Robinson Ltd are due to appear before Trafford Magistrates Court on Friday.
