CHILDREN at Gaskell Primary School celebrated with a special visit from author Stuart Reid.

Mr Reid, who has written books such as Gorgeous George and the Unidentified Unsinkable Underpants, gave a talk to all pupils and staff at the school in Thomas Holden Street, Bolton.

He read from his books, showed pictures, gave children advice and held a question and answer session.

Mr Reid’s visit was met with glowing praise by pupils and teachers, and Danyaal Raza, aged five, said: “I thought he was brilliant because he really made me laugh."

Abu-Bakr Khan, aged 11, said: “Stuart was hilarious. It was so exciting to meet a real life author and find out all about his new books.

"He gave us lots of writing tips and told us to visualise our characters in our minds. Reading rocks.”

Kate Sixsmith, year six teacher, said: “It was a joy to see the children so enthralled.

"Stuart has raised the profile of reading even further and has helped to create a generation that really does love books.”
