The Taste winner cooks for Manchester United star Ryan Giggs

The Bolton News: Ryan Giggs with Debbie Halls-Evans Ryan Giggs with Debbie Halls-Evans

DEBBIE Halls-Evans has just won TV cookery show The Taste and now she has been given her first chef role — working at Ryan Giggs’ restaurant in Worsley.

The 42-year-old will be working at George’s Restaurant with head chef Andrew Parker, who will take over from Ludo Lefebvre as her mentor and develop her technical skills and kitchen etiquette.

Ms Halls Evans’ friends and family celebrated the news at the restaurant yesterday while enjoying entertainment from band Parallel Oreos from Bolton School and singer Cammie Carter from Rivington and Blackrod High School at the event, organised by local company DLC Events.

Ryan Giggs also made an appearance to officially welcome Ms Halls Evans to the restaurant, where she will be helping to create her own dishes.

She said: “I am really looking forward to working at George’s. I have got the creative skills needed, as I demonstrated on The Taste, and now I need to learn the technical skills such as etiquette of the kitchen and how to prep.

“I'm a home cook who is self taught so I need to learn the working practices of the kitchen. There is a deep respect in kitchens so I will be starting at the bottom and working my way up.

“I will be working with head chef Andrew Parker who will be helping me create some new dishes. I can’t wait.”

Speaking of Debbie’s new role, Ryan said: “It’s great. Obviously we are happy to be hosting this celebration of what she has achieved on the programme too.

“I think the team that we’ve got are definitely open to ideas — that’s what kind of restaurant we are. We are just in the process of changing over to a spring menu so maybe Debbie can add something to that.”

Well done Debbie, the sweet TASTE of success, it just tastes better with every paragraph I read - you will be calling in to see your old friends at Bolton FM - it's your turn for the cakes.

Only -7 dislikes. That's really disappointing, I thought I was more unpopular.
