AN inquest has opened into the death of a pedestrian killed while walking on the motorway.

Gary Wood, aged 30, died after being struck by a Skoda Octavia on the M61 between Rivington North Services and junction six at about 11.20pm on Saturday, March 29.

He had been at a Tinie Tempah concert at the O2 Apollo in Manchester earlier that night. Police are trying to trace a woman seen talking to him outside the concert in the smoking area about an hour before he was killed.

It is not known why Mr Wood, from Blackburn, was walking on the motorway. An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned at Bolton Coroners Court on Monday.
