Bolton Mountain Rescue Team experience 'busiest' day for call outs

The Bolton News: Bolton Mountain Rescue Team Bolton Mountain Rescue Team

THREE rescues were carried out at Rivington Pike by volunteers from Bolton Mountain Rescue Team (BMRT).

Nineteen volunteers turned out to the rescues which took place this afternoon.

They included an 11-year-old girl, from Chorley, who was airlifted to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool with a knee injury, a 41-year-old woman, from Westhoughton, who was taken to Royal Bolton Hospital with a lower leg injury and a 14-year-old girl who was taken to Chorley and South Ribble Hospital with a suspected broken ankle.

The 14-year-old girl was injured near to the terrace gardens, off Roynton Lane, Rivington.

Garry Rhodes, from BMRT, said it was the busiest Good Friday he had experienced.

Mr Rhodes said: “Good Friday is always busy for Bolton Mountain Rescue Team but this was the busiest Good Friday for a long time - I have been involved since 1977. I think the increase in incidents is due to the weather and it being a nice weekend.

Firefighters were also called to the pigeon tower at Rivington Pike. Firefighters were called about 5pm today.

The fire involved grass and fences.

Surprised there weren't a good few car accidents given the horrendous driving and the disgusting attitude to parking. What is it about crowds that bring out the worst in human nature?
