A THEATRE group will bring its season to a close with a romantic comedy, described as Bridget Jones meets Nigella Lawson.

A Piece of Cake, being staged by Tyldesley Little Theatre (TLT), centres around Penelope, played by Jodie Brown, who finds herself laid off and seizes the chance to follow her dream by opening a cake shop.

She rents a ramshackle property, helped by bumbling David, played by Connor Parkinson, not-so-bright Lizzie, played by Alana Howarth-Lees, and a handsome carpenter named Peter, played by Paul Ward.

It will be staged at the Lemon Street venue, from Tuesday, May 13 to Saturday, May 17.

Billed as a feast of entertainment, TLT promises to have audiences laughing on the outside and with a warm and lovely feeling on the inside — just like you have eaten a piece of cake.

Summing up the season, director Ian Taylor said: “Audience feedback has been tremendous, critical support from reviewers has been humbling and positive and the busy local society has been privileged to welcome quite a number of new actors on-stage and enthusiastic helpers backstage.

“In keeping with this, our next production, A Piece of Cake, manages to make use of the best of veteran skills, whilst offering fresh young talent.”

The cast features Paul, winner of three GMDF Best Actor/Supporting Actor awards, Connor, winner of a GMDF Adjudicator’s Discretion award, and Alex Clarke, BATS-nominated Best Actor in a Drama.

They will appear alongside Alana, in her third role of her debut season, and debutante Jodie.
