A TOWN centre restaurant got visitors from across the country to show off their dance moves by holding an afternoon tea event.

The Olympus fish and chip shop, in Newport Street, held the day of dancing to bring more people to Bolton.

Visitors were treated to a traditional fish and chip supper, afternoon tea and a pianist performing old classics.

Tasos Pattichis, the restaurant’s owner, came up with the idea and got in touch with various coach companies to promote the event.

In the last three months, Olympus has brought in groups from five coach companies with the restaurant attracting visitors from as far as Wales and from across Greater Manchester.

Mr Pattichis said: “This event has been very successful. It helps promote the business and, equally importantly, it puts the town on the map.

“Bolton needs some vibrance and, if I can advertise something like this to a niche market, hopefully it will bring a lot more people to the town.

“The feedback has been brilliant — some people have said it’s the best time they’ve ever had.”

Among those to visit Olympus was the Time of Your Life club in Droylsden, Manchester, which is for over-55s.

Sylvia Quinn, a member of the club, aged 81, said: “We came to Bolton specifically for this, because we’d heard it was very good.

“Olympus is a beautiful restaurant and the staff are really friendly. It’s a really good advert for Bolton.”

Club treasuer Joan Turton, aged 82, added: “It’s been fantastic — the food, the service, everything.

“Some of the people up there dancing have never had so much attention.”

how refreshing to find a businessman who looks wider than the day to day running of the business - this man deserves to succeed.

This fellas in the Bolton News nearly as much as Maxine Peake. Come on and do some serious reporting, there's nothing interesting about a chippy serving chips or an actress acting.
