A MAN has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car in Bolton town centre.

The man was hit by a silver Toyota Yaris outside The Picture House flats in Bradshawgate at 11.50am today.

Police and an ambulance were called to the scene and the man was treated for injuries to his left arm.

His injuries are believed to be serious but not life-threatening, and he was said to be conscious and breathing while he was treated.

He was taken to hospital by the North West Air Ambulance, which landed in the car park in Bollings Yard, just off Bradshawgate.

No one has been arrested and the police are treating it as an accident.

One witness, who asked to remain anonymous, said: "I saw him walk out in front of the car. After he got hit, he was face down at first, then he picked himself up, but he's clearly badly injured.

Another witness said: "It looks pretty serious, but at least he's conscious. It could have been much worse."

A police spokesman said the man had suffered "serious" injuries.
