A TEENAGER says she hopes to inspire others to get involved in the YMCA after she was chosen as the charity’s latest national ambassador.

Marianne Reilly was selected to join a group of nine young people to join the YMCA England’s panel of ambassadors to provide a voice for the organisation at local and national level.

The 19-year-old, from Halliwell, first got involved with the group when she suffered from depression as a young carer.

With the help of Bolton YMCA, she says she has learnt how to cope with pressures at home and address her illness.

Marianne said: “I am so excited to have been given the chance to be a YMCA Media Ambassador for this great charity and to speak on behalf of the countless young people it supports.

“My life has totally changed since I got involved with Bolton YMCA.

“I hope that my personal experience will show other young people who may be going through a tough time that help is available and you can transform your life for the better.

“It feels wonderful to give something back and help other young people achieve their dreams.”

In exchange for promoting the work of the YMCA, Marianne will get guidance and a training package to help her develop. Julian Finch, Bolton YMCA’s chief executive in Bolton, said: “We are delighted and incredibly proud that Marianne has been given this amazing opportunity.

“She has shown extra-ordinary courage and determination and is a true inspiration.

“All of us at Bolton YMCA feel honoured to have been able to celebrate her journey so far.”
