A MUM who underwent a hysterectomy after being diagnosed with cervical cancer is preparing to take a few knocks for the charity that helped her through her illness.

Laura Beaumont was diagnosed with cancer in October last year and was told that the only option was for her to have her womb removed.

The mum to four-year-old Rocky had the operation in November and now wants to use her story to highlight the importance of cervical screening during Cervical Cancer Awareness Week, which starts on Monday.

The 32-year-old said: “I received a letter after a routine cervical screen saying I had abnormal cells.

“I went for treatment and they told me I would get the results three to four weeks later. When I got the phone call saying my results had come I knew it wasn’t good news.”

Mrs Beaumont, of Wintergreen Close, Leigh, will take part in the Tough Mudder at Cholmondeley Castle in Chester on September 13, along with best friend Keli Morris, in aid of Jo’s Trust.

She said: “The charity was a major part of it for me. I used to go on the website every night to read other people’s stories. It let me know that I wasn’t alone.

“I was never given any other options regarding my treatment. Even if I had I would have still gone through with it.

“I have a son and two stepsons and although I would have liked to have another child, I would rather be around to look after the ones I’ve got.

“Keli is bit of an adrenalin junky and I am sure we will end up with a few bumps and bruises but it is all for a good cause.”
