WE’RE on our marks, we’re getting set and we’re ready to go.

The Bolton News girls are gearing up to take part in next month’s Race for Life, which will be held in Leverhulme Park.

The team have already been pounding the streets as they train for the 5k event, which is hoped will raise tens of thousands of pounds for Cancer Research UK.

And the Bolton News girls have been chosen for the honour of starting the race off.

Deputy editor Lynn Ashwell, news editor Jane Lavender, health correspondent Charlotte Dobson, education correspondent Saiqa Chaudhari, crime correspondent Miranda Newey and picture desk assistant Jessica Blackburn will be joining thousands of women for the event on July 6.

Jane said: “There are very few people who haven’t been touched by cancer — I lost my own mum to the disease — and the other girls also have very good reasons for taking part.

“As a campaigning newspaper, The Bolton News has raised tens of thousands of pounds for good causes over the years and we are proud to be doing our bit to beat cancer.

“I urge our readers to spare any money they can to sponsor us and raise as much as possible for this fantastic charity.

“And make sure you come down on the day to cheer us on.”

This year, race organisers have set a fundraising target of £105,000 and need 1,800 women and girls stride out in Bolton.

Bolton Race for Life manager Carrie Murphy said: “We are thrilled that the Bolton News ladies are going to join us for Race for Life at Leverhulme Park.

“They will be setting the participants on their way and will be our special guests. We hope many more women from Bolton will join them and help raise as much money for possible for Cancer Research UK."
