AS more than 1,000 people prepare to take part in this year’s Midnight Memories Walk, Bolton Hospice has issued advice on how to stay safe.

Hospice bosses have also revealed a full list of entertainment for tomorrow’s event, which starts at Victoria Square.

Walkers are asked to wear suitable footwear, such as trainers or walking shoes, and to bring a torch for extra light in darker spots en-route.

They are also advised to stay on the pavement, as Chorley New Road is still open to traffic on the night.

Anyone showing signs of being heavily under the influence of alcohol will be removed from the walk and people with a medical condition should bring relevant medication with them.

Maria Passarello, events manager at Bolton Hospice, said: “Thanks to everyone who is joining us for our eight Midnight Memories Walk.

“This is a fully-marshalled event and we have made every effort to ensure your safety and ask that you listen to the instructions on the night.

“We want to once again make this a memorable and special night for everyone and raise money for the care of our patients.”

The event begins at 8.30pm on Victoria Square with Tower FM and morning presenter Tony Horne broadcasting live to all participants.

There will be entertainment from the bands Telling Twins Apart, Black Jack Casino and Made in Wonderland.

Walkers will be put through their paces with some Bollywood dancing and a warm up from instructors at Virgin Active.

They will have the opportunity to dedicate a light or heart to someone special and these will be displayed on Victoria Square, Bolton Hospice and Meadow Hill Education and Arts Nursery.

Merchandise will be on sale throughout the night, including Cowboy Hats, flashing bunny ears, halos, wands, glasses and cowboy hats to add fun to the proceedings.

The walk starts at midnight and once walkers have finished they will be presented with a medal and refreshments.

Bolton FM will broadcast live during the walk.

The Midnight Memories Walk is a big income generator for Bolton Hospice and is supported by the community, local businesses, Bolton Council and Greater Manchester Police.

l Mecca Bingo in Bolton town centre is offering a free evening of games to people taking part in tomorrow’s Midnight Memories walk before they set off.

Those who would like to take up the offer, which is for Saturday from 7pm, are asked to take their T-shirt and walker number for the free pass.
