FORMER Bolton Wanderers players pitched in when they took part in a charity golf event.

Roy Greaves and John Ritson got in the swing at Hart Common Golf Course in Westhoughton along with more than 100 other golfers to help raise £4,000 for the Bolton and District MS Society, which provides information and support to families who need advice about multiple sclerosis.

The event was organised by Oliver Keenan, aged 68, who lost his wife of 40 years, Winefride, to the neurological disease in 2011 — nearly 30 years after she was first diagnosed.

Mr Keenan, a retired teacher, first arranged a charity golf tournament seven years ago when his wife was wheelchair-bound. Since that first event, Mr Keenan has raised a total of £36,000 for the charity.

He said: “It was such an enjoyable day, and thankfully the weather was fantastic.”
