A FITNESS fanatic and dedicated fundraiser will cycle more than 500 miles to raise money for charity.

Royston Brett, the neighbour of tragic Jade Lomas-Anderson, who was mauled to death by a pack of dogs while at a friend’s house in Atherton in March last year, will ride from Manchester to Yorkshire and back on Sunday, July 13.

Mr Brett will cycle from Manchester to Blackpool on Sunday morning, before cycling from Blackpool to Southport.

He will then cycle the Trans Pennine Trail from Southport to Hornsea in East Yorkshire and back, which is more than 400 miles.

The challenge, which spans 530 miles altogether, is expected to take between four to five days.

Mr Brett, aged 42, of Atherton, is tackling the feat in aid of Wigan and Leigh Hospice, where his girlfriend’s mother died three weeks ago, and Bolton children’s charity Wipe Your Tears, for whom he has volunteered.

He is hoping to raise £1,000, which he will split between the two charities.

Mr Brett said: “These are both such great charities and I hope that in doing this bike ride I will make more people aware of the work they do. I feel confident of completing the challenge and I’m looking forward to it. The views will be outstanding.”

Mr Brett cycled from Manchester to London last year to fund Jade Lomas-Anderson’s family’s campaign against dangerous dogs.

He has also completed the Decathlon Bolton Duathlon.

Mr Brett’s girlfriend Amy Mohammed, aged 28, said: “I’m very pleased that Royston has chosen these charities — the care my mother got from Wigan and Leigh Hospice was outstanding.

“It’s a long distance, but I know Royston can do it.”

In2-Signs, a signmaking company based in Leigh, will sponsor Mr Brett’s bike ride.
