CREDIT union Hoot has hit the jackpot — after savers in Bolton helped it collect £1 million.

The credit union, which helps residents save and also lends money to those in need at affordable rates, reached the landmark total after Bolton Community and Voluntary Service (CVS) deposited a cheque for £15,000.

Hoot helps people to build up a nest egg and is also there for savers when they need extra funds.

Chris Canham, assistant manager of Hoot, said: “Hoot is the responsible and ethical alternative for savings and loans and we believe that every member matters.

“The support we are given by organisations like Bolton CVS is vital in our aim to offer services to the broad community and we would encourage every individual or community group to find out more about Hoot membership by going to our website.”

Karen Minnitt, chief executive of Bolton CVS said: “Bolton CVS is delighted to support Hoot Credit Union by investing £15,000 which can be used to provide low interest loans for local people.

“The funds we are providing come from our Big Bolton Fund investment scheme and the interest we receive from Hoot will be added to our Small Grants Programme so that community groups in Bolton will also benefit directly from this investment too.

“We would encourage other charities in Bolton in invest in the same way.

“The money is in safe hands and will be put to excellent use for the benefit of local people.

“This is a great way of working together for mutual benefit.”
