THE SUPER 16 have done it!

A sporty group of cyclists were challenged to ride 32 miles from Bolton to Southport on Saturday and, despite the energy-sapping heat, all 16 made it across the finish line.

They were taking part in aid of Bolton’s Ear 4 Kids, a group that brings together deaf children and their parents in a welcoming social setting.

It is the third year the seaside ride has taken place and organisers expect to raise between £300 and £500.

The group set off from McDonald’s in Chorley Old Road, Bolton, at 9.30am and arrived on the coast about three hours later.

Jane Jones, Ear 4 Kids chairman, said: “It was a tremendous effort in hot conditions.

“Those taking part included Steven Jones, Dave Saunders and Tony Beach, who all have children with hearing impairments and come from the Astley Bridge area.

“The others are family and friends of the children and Ear 4 Kids supporters.

“The youngest taking part was Milo Saunders, who is 15.

“Proceeds will be put towards buying new kits for our football team. Our children are so thankful for the cyclists’ efforts.”
