VETERANS’ sweetheart Sarah Dennis sang her heart out for a special event for servicemen and women at the Empress Ballroom in Blackpool.

Ms Dennis, from Bradley Fold, performed classics including songs from Gracie Fields and Vera Lynn as well as a new song written by Bolton entertainer Howard Broadbent and Lynne Lowe called I Will Remember You.

The new song is a poignant tale of World War One written to mark the centenary of the start of the conflict.

Ms Dennis was delighted to be dubbed the veterans’ sweetheart — an honour bestowed on her by the National Service RAF Association and the Lancashire Veterans’ Association.

She added: “It is an honour and I’m delighted to have been given the title in the centenary year of the Great War and the 75th anniversary year of World War Two.”

Her new album For Now and Forever, which features Mr Broadbent’s song, is available now and £1 from every purchase will benefit veterans’ charities.
