BOLTON’S first “interfaith cricket tournament” will be held next month — alongside a family fun day.

The tournament, which will be held at Deane and Derby Cricket Club, on August 2, from noon, will be supported by Bolton Council and Bolton at Home.

There will be face painters, henna artists, a bouncy castle, a barbecue, a magician and a “chocolate fountain”.

It follows hot on the heels of the seventh Spirit of Bolton event, which saw more than 20 local groups showcasing their community work, alongside popular cultural activities such as henna and face painting, bracelet and badge making and calligraphy writing.

It was organised by the Bolton Interfaith Council with support from Bolton Council, Bolton Council of Mosques, Bolton Hindu Forum and Bolton Christian Community Cohesion. There was Bollywood dancing, choirs, young children’s performances, Indian tabla and mandolin playing and African drumming.

Chan Parmar from the Interfaith Council said: “For me, this kind of event can only be done through excellent partnership work of like-minded people who are genuinely interested in coming together for peace, harmony and building trust amongst people from all communities.

“Events like this emphasis the true spirit of Bolton and its people.”

Entry to the cricket tournament and family fun day is free.

“Events like this emphasis the true spirit of Bolton and its people.” Ignoring the bad spelling, the true spirit of Bolton and its people? Are we really sure about that?
