A MAN who sent abusive text and social media messages has been given a suspended jail sentence.

Bolton magistrates heard Stephen Green, aged 33, of Thurnham Street, Lancaster, sent messages to Andrew Slater between November 23 last year and February 27.

He also harassed Kirsty Hodgkiss by sending her messages between February 23 and March 4 and used threatening words or behaviour in Bolton on February 16.

He was sentenced to 16 weeks in jail, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to do 120 hours unpaid work.

He was also ordered to pay £200 compensation, £620 costs and an £80 victim surcharge.

The court banned him from contacting his victims.
