A FARNWORTH gardener has come up smelling of roses after winning his second prestigious award at this year’s Tatton flower show.

The Bolton News reported last Friday that Andrew Walker, who works for Bolton-based award winning Walker Landscape Design, won a silver-gilt medal for his specially designed show garden for the NSPCC.

But he says the icing on the cake was winning the People’s Choice award, which was voted for by members of the public.

Mr Walker’s ‘Safe from Harm’ garden was designed to demonstrate the hard work the NSPCC’s ChildLine School Service provides, showing how a child’s life might be both with and without the charity.

Mr Walker said: “I’m honoured that my design won the People’s Choice award because that has come directly from the public, and they are the ones that count.

“It’s the icing on the cake after winning the silver-gilt medal last week. Plus it’s more great publicity for such an important charity.

“Showcasing the Safe from Harm garden was a wonderful way of celebrating the work of the NSPCC and I’m delighted to have been part of it.

“I really hope that the garden raises awareness of the fantastic work the charity does to protect children and prevent abuse.”

Rachel Walker, NSPCC community fundraising manager for Cheshire, added: “The NSPCC believes that every childhood is worth fighting for and that every child should be safe from harm, so our garden is a fitting way to recognise this and we were delighted to be recognised by the public and win the People’s Choice Award.

“We hope our garden inspires people to consider how they could help to keep more children safe and free from cruelty.”
