A NEW cabaret-style bar hopes to inject a VIP feel to Bolton’s nightlife scene.

The Venue is due to open in Churchgate in mid-August at the premises formerly occupied by Kiss nightclub and the Brasshouse.

The VIP lounge and cabaret bar is being launched by Dave Holmes and John Wray, who have more than 60 years experience between them in the pub and club trade.

Mr Holmes, who runs the Crofters Arms and the Claremont Arms, both in Halliwell Road, as well as The D Havilland Club, Farnworth, said: “We are just trying to create a different scene for people who do not come into town any more.

“No-one is offering that sort of stuff.

“There are plenty of discos and late night places where you can go and drink a lot and dance. We’re offering a different scene.”

The pair have been hard at work revamping and redecorating the bar which will host bands, tribute acts, singers, old school music, VIP tables for hire and, potentially, a comedy night.

Mr Wray, who used to work for pub and bar operator Punch Taverns and runs a licensing training company, said: “It’s geared to the over 25s, with quality products.

“We are not competing with the cheaper end and we won’t be trading during the day.

“We want people to walk in here and for it to have the wow factor.”

The Venue, which will also be available for hire for corporate events, dinner dances and Christmas parties, will open at 5pm on Fridays and Saturdays, with a 4am licence.

Last month The Capitol, also in Churchgate, closed its doors but is due to reopen after minor structural changes have been made by owners Amber Taverns. Mr Holmes said: “It’s probably the best end of town.

“There is The Capitol which is going to open again. That’s going to be really nice.”

Mr Holmes previously ran Cafe Bar 210, at the corner of Deansgate and Bradshawgate, which closed in 2003, and the Victoria British Queen, Blackburn Road, which also shut.

He added that The Venue was a good size and in a location with taxis at the door.
