RESIDENTS on a street in Bradshaw raised nearly £1,000 for Bolton Hospice — by throwing their own party.

People living in Timberbottom held the party on Sunday to thank the hospice for its work treating a number of residents’ family and friends.

The event included cake sales, a barbecue, a raffle, ice bucket challenges and children’s games.

The street has seen its fair share of parties as residents gather every year to celebrate Christmas and Easter and they have also celebrated The Royal Wedding and The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Mother-of-two Sarah Chadwick, aged 37, said: “We have parties all the time on this street. Everyone always gets together.

“We were long overdue a party so we thought of organising one to raise money for charity.

“When we tallied it up and saw how much we’d raised, we were in shock. I’m delighted we collected so much.

“People were just chucking money in for a good cause, which was really encouraging.”

The money raised came from the sale of refreshments, raffle tickets and donations from visitors on the day.

Children even came up with their own way of raising money, by charging 50 pence to put cream-filled plates in their dads’ faces.

Mother-of-three Jenny Cain, aged 37, said: “It was a brilliant and very successful day.

“Bolton Hospice touches quite a few of us on this street and there’s a great community spirit here.

“What we have found from holding this party is that everybody wants to make a difference.

“The support has been unbelievable.

“I think it’s something we could do every year.”
