THE police watchdog will not investigate officers after a man launched a “frenzied knife attack” on a woman, and threatened to kill her the day after he was released from custody.

Arkadiusz Piotr Gawryszewski was jailed for nine years and four months after leaving his girlfriend, Agnieszka Nawrath covered in blood.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) was said in court to have launched a probe because the 29-year-old defendant, of Westbourne Avenue, Great Lever, had been released from custody after an attack on May 3, only to go on to attack Miss Nawrath again on May 5.

She suffered wounds to her face, neck and chest.

An IPCC spokesman said the case was referred to them in May but it was decided Greater Manchester Police should investigate themselves.

A copy of the final report will be given to the IPCC.

A police spokesman said it could not comment as the investigation into the officers’ actions is ongoing.
