A HUGE blaze has destroyed a large area of heathland on Winter Hill.
Fire crews have spent more than two hours this afternoon beating out the fire, which is believed to have started naturally by heat on an area of the hill near to the San Marino's restaurant in Belmont Road.
Crews from Horwich, Chorley and Bolton North were called to the site just after 1pm and used fire beaters to put out the blaze, which covered an area of about 300 metres by 400 metres.
The fire has left a large area of scorched earth about 500 metres from the road.
