A TELEVISION show which charted the ups and downs of life at a multi-million-pound Bolton scrapyard and its staff is set to return for a second series.

Millions of people tuned in to watch six-part series Scrappers, which launched on BBC One in August, and now there are plans for the cameras to return to Metro Salvage, Waterloo Street.

Throughout the show’s run, millions of viewers warmed to its stars inc-luding owners, straight-talking Terry Walker and his glamorous wife Lyndsay, lovable rogue Lewis O’Boyle and his pals, as well as Debs Guffogg and sister Michelle Humphreys, from the yard’s cafe.

Although no details have been confirmed, an agree-ment has been made with the programme makers following the popularity of the original series.

Father-of-three Mr Walker, aged 50, who lives in Radcliffe with his wife of 30 years, said: “Contracts have to be signed yet before it’s definite but it is agreed verbally.

“We are over the moon.”

In a Bolton News online poll held just after the first series finished in September, 93 per cent of voters said they would like to see a second series of Scrappers.

Fans of the show took to Twitter to tell of their delight at the news of the show’s planned return.

Chloe_McCluskie wrote: “Buzzing to find out there is going to be another series of Scrappers, highlight of Friday nights!” and @vickirance said: “Best news Scrappers is coming back, can’t wait to see you guys”.

Mr and Mrs Walker, who both attended Sharples School and started dating as teenagers, built up their empire to become the biggest scrap metal yard in the North West of England.

The first series of Scrappers featured highs and lows including 19-year-old Lewis, known as Boyle, from Little Lever, taking to the controls of monstrous crusher Gloria the Grab, two employees sacked while Mr and Mrs Walker were on holiday in Tenerife, and the lads stripping off for a semi-naked calendar.
