A MUM will climb new heights as part of a gruelling charity challenge up Rivington Pike.

Kelly Sullavan will run a marathon distance up and down the famous hill on five consecutive days in what is thought to be one of the toughest challenges in the UK.

The 37-year-old will take part in the “Hell of a Hill” challenge between November 12 and 16 and will be given nine hours each day to complete the eight laps of the pike.

Kelly’s efforts will see her scale 6,000ft on each of the five days.

She is putting herself through the demanding challenge to raise money for the Morrisons Blackbelt Karate Academy in Halliwell, where her five-year-old son Liam attends.

Mrs Sullavan, a personal trainer from Halliwell, said: “I was running a marathon in Coniston in June and wanted a new challenge. I like to see how far I can push myself and, as I am quite good at running, I thought this would be a good idea.

“But I am well aware that it is going to be really tough. They call it ‘Hell of a Hill’ and that is exactly what it will be. It will be really hard and I know I am going to hurt, but I am confident that I can do it.”

Mrs Sullavan, who lives in Halliwell Road, has been training every day, regularly heading up the hill as well as improving her strength with weight training at the gym she works at in South Manchester.

She decided to raise money for the Morrisons Academy after seeing the work the group have done to help her son and the rest of the local community.

She said: “They are fantastic with my son as well as a lot of the other kids around here. It is important to get kids into sport at an early age and that is what they do.”

If you would like to sponsor Mrs Sullavan you can pick up sponsor forms at the Morrisons Academy, which is based in Unit G3, Falcon Mill, Handel Street in Halliwell.
