HISTORY lovers are being invited to share their memories and life stories for an arts project in Bolton Market Place.

A timeline mural has been created at the entrance to the market, incorporating memories of Bolton gathered from residents as well as historic objects and photographs from the town.

The Interval Market Memories project, based in Knowsley Street, has asked people to share their stories of work, going out and everyday life in Bolton.

Nikki Wilson-Cook, centre manager at the Market Place said: “The project is truly inspiring.

“Bolton has such a fantastic history and what better way to show this than on the hoardings of one of the town’s biggest renovation projects here at Market Place Shopping Centre.

“The redevelopment of our Victorian Vaults has already started to bring new people into the town. It is great to show them part of Bolton’s past while welcoming them to our future.”

As well as serving as a reminder of Bolton’s rich history, it is hoped that the project, managed by independent curator Louisa Mor, will highlight the potential for further development and regeneration.

Artists Andy Smith and Allison Timmins, from Neo:artists, were commissioned to paint a design for the hoardings, while Tracy Hindley and Francesca Platt from Bolton film-makers thebox.tv have been collating memories as well as working with young people from the YMCA, who have designed a Bolton Bonanza Monopoly game.

The group has also organised a screening of Spring and Port Wine, the 1970 film set in Bolton and starring James Mason, on Friday, October 24, at 4pm in the Market Place.
